Nearly everyone is already protected against severe illness. More boosters won’t change that. Neither will pushing the vaccines. So maybe he’s just trying to keep his channel as profitable as possible despite the pandemic already being over. @crazyratlady3438 , Well, how the vaccines work is incredibly simple. There’s absolutely no reason why the platform itself should cause any long term side effects that occur after a few months. We know this because we have been studying mRNA technology for over 50 years. So the only possibility, because it’s the only thing that’s actually new, is the spike protein, and what long term effects it might cause. However, the spike proteins created by the mRNA vaccines are temporary. Therefore any adverse reactions caused by the spike proteins will show up while the spike proteins are still present, not years later. What that means is that we know already that we have already seen all the long term side effects that we will ever see. Besides, the virus also causes is to make spike proteins, but significantly more of them. So any long term side effects caused by the spike proteins will be worse with infection. Because the vaccines reduce the viral replication upon infection, the vaccines will also reduce the risk of long term side effects upon post vaccination infection, which is actually what we’re seeing. So basically, we already know all the long term side effects of the vaccines.

Everyone in South Africa has already been exposed to the virus. They’re already immune. The vaccines are no longer necessary there unless it’s for the next variant. They can, and should predict that next variant now, and prepare the vaccine now before it’s too late. They need to be more proactive, rather than reactive.

John Samuels, I agree. A 4th dose, for most people, is completely unnecessary and useless until they update the vaccines for new variants. They need to use science to predict future variants (something they have already done). Then manufacture, test this vaccine and approve this new vaccine before the new variants occur in the wild. Then they’ll actually be able to prevent the spread of the new variant before it spreads. With both the Delta and the Omicron specific vaccines, they are still testing them after the Delta and Omicron waves are over. The world has already reached herd immunity against Delta and BA.1. BA.2 is significantly more contagious than BA.1, so it is still able to spread. Omicron didn’t outcompete Delta. Delta stopped being able to spread once we reached herd immunity against Delta. The same happened with BA.1. Cases started to fall as soon as we reached herd immunity against BA.1.

Why would they mandate 4? 2 doses already protect against severe illness, and no number of doses will ever prevent infection, so I doubt they will ever mandate a 4th shot. The EUA for a 4th dose is only so some people can choose a 4th dose. Maybe some old people actually need a 4th dose.

@MakeMeLo , HPV is a virus. HPV causes cancer. Yes, most cancers are caused by inflammation and immune dysfunction, but not all. Some are caused by viruses. It’s like terrain theory vs. germ theory. It’s not one or the other. There are pathogens that cause severe illness in perfectly healthy people, but when you become unhealthy, there are pathogens that will cause illness that normally would not had you been healthy. Both are valid reasons for illness. That’s why even healthy people should get vaccinated against many pathogens, but not others.

@RedHairdo , Comorbidities only double your risk of severe illness. Around 50% are asymptomatic. This means that 2/3 of them will have no comorbities, and 1/3 won’t.

@nosuchthing8 , Antibody levels wane over time. This is normal with all antibodies against all pathogens regardless of whether those antibodies were obtained from infection or vaccination. However, once we have had antibodies, we will continue to have memory B cells and T cells with T cell receptors that target the pathogen forever. This is how our adaptive immune system functions. The results is that immunity against asymptomatic and mild infection wanes, but protection against severe disease a hospitalization persists. The vaccines are over 95% effective at reducing hospitalization and death.

I believe that very few people actually need a 3rd dose. And those who need a 4th dose likely have a problem with their immune system that makes a 4th dose pointless. For those people monoclonals and antivirals will have to be sufficient. If not, they’re just screwed. If you don’t have a healthy properly functioning immune system, vaccines can’t help you. Vaccines rely on a heal properly functioning immune system to be effective.
