  1. I'm more surprised that the British government waited until 1929 to start a pest control program for government buildings. Seriously, one of the main reasons we domesticated cats all those millennia ago was to fend off mice and rats from our food supplies and homes. You'd think every monarch since Alfred the Great and all the aristocrats and bureaucrats would've kept at least one cat in their palaces in the days before mousetraps and effective rodenticides.
