Comments by "John Allen" (@johnallen7807) on "Moving On: One Of Army's Oldest Bases Closes For The Final Time" video.
92 bases closed! And this from a Conservative government that is supposed to care about defence. Large parts of the country are now left with no military presence which will hit recruiting and public support, if people cannot see soldiers they will have even less links or understanding of the services.

@VanderlyndenJengold Unfortunately none of them have ever served so they have no idea of what is involved in the Regimental system. Johnny Mercer, who as Veterans Minister spoke out against the legal persecution of troops from the Troubles was promptly sacked by Boris!

@TheMarineGamerIGGHQ We are the 5th largest economy in the world! If we can waste £37 billion (so far) on fighting a virus with a 99.5% recovery rate we must have a properly funded defence policy!

@1chish I actually meant Cabinet Ministers, my understanding is that Johnny Mercer was sacked although obviously Downing Street spin it differently. I certainly hold no brief for Labour and their record on defence but with all the experience you point out I would have expected better from the Tories. For example it was Tory defence cuts in the early 80's especially scrapping the Endurance that convinced Argentina we would not fight. Then we had the SDSR of 2010 which as I;m sure you will agree was just "cuts" dressed up. The present state sees the Army with 72000 men below even the low target they were set but then Capita haven't hit their target since they were given the contract 9 yrs ago (This makes it smaller than at the time of Waterloo when the population was around 5 million) and about 150 MBTs, Russia by contrast has over 1000. The Navy has around 19 major surface units and just 5 submarines apart from SSBM. The RAF have 7 frontline squadrons and just a handful of bases. I could go on in a lot more details but I think I have made my point.

@TheMarineGamerIGGHQ Yet another YouTuber who hides behind a fake name to insult people. Your English is pathetic for a start "economical knowledge"???, you have absolutely no idea of my knowledge of economics, as it happens it was one of my degree subjects so I suggest you "think before you write" in future!

@jonathanpipe8249 Indeed and I bet they want to able to afford the houses they build there either.

@adiadi5832 Of course but name me a war that was won without "boots on the ground" Cameron tried it in Libya and look at the mess there. Afghanistan had every piece of AI going but the men on the ground won.
