  1. Excellent. I have been saying this for years. The divorce process implies much much more than a court settlement. Instead in reality YOU can become subordinate to the court and its policies and clerks. There are few ways to minimize this risk. Get the best legal advisor you can find!! Rule #1. Of course it is not fair, but that is the system we have. My Rule #2 is to ALWAYS be planning LONG term for both good and bad life experiences. You can not know this in advance. No crystal balls that I know of actually work.

  2. In my divorce ( I planned it for 2 years) I always based my decisions on many years into the future just to avoid situations like this. I went from working in an organization at mid level management with lots of required unpaid overtime. Wife hated that and encouraged me to work on my own! Excellent! Why? Because my documented taxable income went down the toilet. I was not doing my best to build up new clients but sure looked busy doing this ( all documented). During a divorce they first look at everything that is documented. Always keep your mouth shut to EVERYONE . Someone is always talking. On paper she "won" but she and the court did not "own" me. I am a self-starter and know my productivity . Notice my avatar? It is the Phoenix or Firebird that flew out of the red hot coals, fire and ashes of a California divorce. I won!

  3. No spousal support, no child support, "Nothing to see here" said her five different law firms. No trust used. Just started from scratch and after a clawback period I surpassed where I was before the divorce by > five times. This was not easy and had no free time, no vacations and my own fully funded pension plan. The QDRO almost killed me. I am no longer under the microscope of a court! Winning!

  4. This is a RARE event! This is what 95% of men go through when their wife divorces them, usually for a BBD = Bigger Better Deal with a man who has more money or assets. When she works for "her money" women rarely mention that ALL of his earned income is hers as well as all of her incom is hers

  5. Your income should be substantially less for at least two years BEFORE the divorce. You want to look like an absolute LOSER on paper documents BEFORE the divorce!
