"Beauty is vanishing from our world because we live as though it does not matter.” - Roger Scruton What an absolute brilliant mind he was. May he rest in peace.

Not only architecture, but also art and interior design. Time proves that antiques were made to last.

@edwalker598 Historic city center shouldn't contain any modern buildings. It totally destroys the feeling and order. I have seen it countless times, it ruins the aesthetics. Soul destroying if you ask me. Imagine seeing all orders, and you just need one modern building completely ruining the vibe.

@edwalker598 believe me it can, many cities, I have visited, I was firsf astounded by beauty, but in the corner of my eye, some ugly concrete structure totally ruined the vibe.

Ornaments can be mass produced to lower the prices. Also many modern buildings especially those glass onces are more expensive than their classical beautiful counterpart. Architecture in historic center should stay classical, no modern building should be placed anywhere near them.

@edwalker598 and sometimes they try to blend in, but the cheap look, can ruin the vibe aswell.

Have you seen footage of the city search ut on YouTube Rotterdam 1930, and you will be mesmerized by her once beautiful streets and façades.

Beautifully done, heel mooie gedaan. Have you seen the movie why beauty matters by Roger Scruton why beauty matters?

I dislike modern interior, I like traditional filled room, furniture, all kinds of molding. You get what vibe I go for.

@tanjavanderknoop8497 it absolutely is. Did you live there, or het Zaailand, they really ruined so much. The new Pathè building, extremely ugly.

@Sacto1654 in the past trams could easily past through these streets.

I am going to be completely honest with you, but I have seen countless mixes, and it really and I mean really destroys the esthetics. Especially in a historic city.

@tanjavanderknoop8497 Prewar Londen was such a beautiful city, now you might not get eye damage from artillery but from a hideous building called the walky talky. It literally sets things on fire, it melted numerous of things. It might cause the second greatest fire of London. In the city my school is located Leeuwarden one ugly building called, the Achema tower is constantly obstructioning the view. Thankfully it ain't as bad as Amersfoort or Eindhoven.

@tanjavanderknoop8497 ah, Leeuwarden in the past was a little gem, untill modernism decided it was time to ruin it. I have seen videos and photos from before Workd War Two, oh what a pretty city it was. Like many cities after World War Two, those architects went crazy.

@dolbow science backs me up; those aesthetic fulfill a function, a very important function. It is good for creativity, our mental health and relatablility. While traditional/classical neighbourhood are less likely to be vandalised. While also improving social cohesion, and people actually caring about their neighbourhood.

@Astke Not in the historic city center. It has always been traditional so no reason to change that. Modern buildings really destroy order and feeling. Imagine walking around in the beautiful medieval city center and in between those gorgeous lovely buildings, there is a modernistic monstrosity completely destroying the aesthetics. I have seen it far too often, it pains my heart. Historic city centers should stay and be inspired by their history. If there is one place that should stay the same and keep the same feeling it is the city center.

@Redzwan Nothing wrong with restoration and reconstruction, it is done with respect, to the orginal design, modernism isn't. It is like a disease if do not take control over it it spreads around in great numbers. I do not know where you live, but medieval is a long period of time. If you want to livd in modern city, you should do so. But keep an historic cityc center how it is should be. Traditional architecture.
1
@Redzwan besides, you are saying is false, beautiful architecture attracts people, makes people more likely invested in the city. Social coherency is also on new level. Ugly buildings can and will make people depressed, stressed or some other negative emotion. You might not feel like that is the case for you, but therd have been scientific papers released about that.
1
@Redzwan I am not denouncing that people have different taste, but rather a majority prefers classical architecture above modern architecture. Traditional architecture is inspired by nature to its core. I do not know in which country you are situated, but many buildings here are protected againt demolishing. From local to national monuments, in the city I live in at least 500 monument are located. I think the people that live in the surrounding buildings and in the city should have a say, they will have to see and experience it. They might be effected by it positively or negatively.
