  1. The tartan wall fell first but prima facie fell differently from how the red wall fell. Sturgeon took Scottish Labour voters by a cynical focus on freebies, and blaming Westminster for her own failings as well as selling identity - Scottish and ‘iFreedom!!’ - as a kind of shangrila. Sturgeon has not got a majority and has (unwisely IMO) gone full doollaly on identity politics, that is not playing as well as she’d hoped. The Labour Party has to think really carefully how it responds. It has the best chance in ten years to get up off the floor. I suspect though that the Scottish Tories will get it together before Labour does in Scotland…Starmer does have a better chance in Scotland than Corbyn did.
