bureaucrats do not put regulations on the troops. Politicians do. bureaucrats just enforce them.

If you really want to know, I advise to watch Perun. This video has too many factual wrong statements (as an example, German Bundeswehr spends 28% of its budget on salaries, and not as this video claims, almost all of it). And while I find the footage of the NVA somewhat funny, it does not really show good quality control of this channel. The communist symbols may have been the clue...

28% of the defense budget goes into salaries in Germany. So the statement of the video is simply wrong.
13
Which is not true. Till the end of the cold war, both West and East Germany had massive armies, I would argue west Germany had the strongest land force in Western Europe.

4:44 is simply wrong. The budget goes not entirely into salaries. In fact, salaries make up less than 50%, or to be precise, 28% (2021 figures).

@ArwedMett It is not difficult to evaluate, as military spending is disclosed in Germany. So you can read how much Germany spends on what. Therefor I can tell you that Germany spend 150 Million Euro on external consultants for the Bundeswehr 2016, or 31.4 million in the first half of 2020, which you might agree, is rather small for a budget of 40bn +

What has military spending to do with the EU? Especially if there are countries will well funded and great armies in it, like France or Finland?

Depends on what kind of war. France is the only country in Europe which can operate a aircraft carrier including the necessary armada to protect it (the UK has to borrow US ships for protection). But when it is about a defensive war, Finland is well prepared, so is Sweden. I am not sure about the current state of the Swiss army, but they have the geographic advantage.

A fellow Perun watcher?

Cave in like announcing 100 more PzH2000 to Ukraine?
1
@Rjsjrjsjrjsj Reality proves otherwise.

@Rjsjrjsjrjsj Today it was announced that Germany will produce and send 100 PzH2000 to Ukraine. Does this sound like caving in to you?

@christophersalazarbonilla6362 because he is an idiot? NATO standardisation is the greatest advertisement to US military industry. Everyone buys F35 thanks to that. Not to mention the massive influence USA gains in Europe in everything concerning security.

Greece? Baltics?

@gingernutpreacher perseption, not reality. Considering that UK and France work closely together to keep their nuclear capabilities (France is building Hickley Point C so the Uk has access to material for nukes, and provides steel for UK nuclear submarines) I say this is mostly BS
1
@Crashed131963 That is what I was differentiating: France (and to some extend, UK) are the military powers of Europe that have good to decent offensive capabilities, next to defensive ones. Countries like Finland have great defensive capabilities.
1
@Rjsjrjsjrjsj You may misunderstood me: I was talking about the German armies (west and east) during the cold war period.
1
@Rjsjrjsjrjsj 1955-1990. Both the Bundeswehr and NVA were well equipped and staffed. Bundeswehr had the most impressive land force of all western european nations.

The video is also factually wrong, too (and by that, I do not mean showing footage of the NVA when talking about the founding of the Bundeswehr 0:58 )
