@atha1ia454 There are not enough British people to fill the gaps. And how does a country like Switzerland accept EU freedom of movement AND pay the highest wages in the world? Maybe its not the EU causing the problem, but UK politics?

Why do countries like Switzerland which accept Freedom of movement pay the highest wages in the world? The UK economic model was a UK decision and had nothing to do with EU membership.

@Floweringlotus I will tell you what happens: certain sectors of the UK economy will just disappear. Farming will be the first. Farming is dependent on seasonal labor, hard work, long hours, low wages. You can not increase wages in this sector too much, as who will pay 50 bucks for half a kilo of UK strawberries, if you can buy EU Strawberries for 5 bucks? Furthermore, the workforce lives in the cities, the farms are on the countryside. What Brit will leave his/her job for a couple of weeks, pay extra rent, dont see the family, for such a job? So farming goes bust. Instead, food will be imported. You can see it already: UK can not, due to a lack of workforce, process its turkeys for Christmas. So UK turkeys get culled and turkeys from France and Poland will get sold to UK consumers. End of UK turkeys. Pork is next. Germany already waiting to sell its pork to UK. Are you ready to rely on other nations for UK food supply? Are you ready for UK farmers going bankrupted? A final question: why does Switzerland both have the highest wages in the world and accepts Freedom of movement?

@minty2800 What do you mean by everybody? This is incorrect. There were reports of a small number of stations having to close down due to shortages of delivery drivers. The government said dont panic. So naturally, everyone panicked.

@eddiel7635 Media worldwide is reporting on it because the crisis is so severe that the army gets involved. I am curious, what other G7 member had to get the army involved to ensure supply of its citizens, without an natural disaster or some kind of attack? There is a national breakdown happening. Food shortages, fuel shortages, shortages of blood tests. The list goes on and on.

@Floweringlotus The EU policy on CAP is to ensure autonomy on food production, and therefor market forces are partly kept out and farmers get money. Similar policies are in place in other countries, be it by direct payments or tax reductions (US model). But the UK government has cut support for farmers. Which brings us to the following: UK farmers have no money (as their investment is either rotting on the fields or being culled, due to labor shortages, so no return). Other sources of income are cut and government denies them any support. You demand investment in high tech equipment. Such equipment is expensive, and farmers do not have the capital. So what happens? They go bankrupted and the UK will become even more reliant on foreign food supply. I find it a huge gamble to fully bet on the free market for essentials (food). What will happen if there is a global food shortage (due to weather extremes occurring more and more), so free market failure? We know that this might happen. Exports of food will be cut by other nations to ensure to feed its own, and the UK`s over reliance on food imports endangers feeding the population. How do you counter this scenario?

Average farm size: UK: 70.9 hectares Germany: 40.5 hectares France: 45 hectares Source: ourworldindata The average farm in the UK is more than 50% bigger than France/Germany. So if the EU system favors bigger farms, UK should have benefited more than France/Germany. You know what country has no strategic food reserve (unlike Germany or France)? The UK.

@maryreid4273 Due to a lack of workforce, next year the availability of British pork or Strawberries will be greatly reduced. Then it it is not a choice between UK or EU, but EU or none.
