  3. Because the UK is not able to kick back. The EU currently fully checks UK imports (including SPS checks). The UK does not check ANY EU imports. Why? Because they neither have the staff nor facilities to do so, and depend on EU imports for everything, including food and medicine. Furthermore, as UK ports are completely overwhelmed, even non EU trade is processed in EU ports and send to the UK. So if the UK would retaliate the same way, it would starve itself.

  5. In Russia, every person who fulfilled his obligation as a conscript is called a reservist for 5 years. These people are neither in training, nor are their equipped or interested in fighting. Most of them actually work, so using them for the military would be another blow to the Russian economy.
