With the euroskeptic parties gaining ground and seats, they might have a bigger say in how the EC will look like. Unless the establishment blocs flock together to form a sort of union coalition, the two sides will need to form coalitions to elect a commission. Sure, the right and 'far-right' do not yet have the reach to form a majority. But neither will the establishmentarians, which is a step and the good direction.
Alas, one variable is not taken into account when it comes to European elections. These elections usually do not correlate with national performance in a lot of states. From where I come, the traditional parties which poll better and win elections at national level, have historically done poor performance in EU elections, while the marginal parties have done better. For example, the progressives rarely go beyond 15% at national level, but at EU elections they can go as far as 25-30%. And this is because in a lot of states, nobody cares about EU elections. Traditional parties care about national and local elections because that is where they get their money and power. Fringe parties care more about EU elections because they MEPs they send there come back with their money contribution to the party that put them on the list.
