In my experience, many Micro 9s are highly selective of the ammunition they'll eat; maneuvering a 9mm cartridge into the chamber, in the space which is comfortable for .380, is a non-trivial challenge; the shape of the bullet matters, and can be limiting. If it's going to be 'micro,' .380 is more reliable, in my experience.

My stepmother loves her .380 PPK. At ten yards, she can eat the heart out of a target; she's in her late 80s. Something about the PPK just works for her.

A little of both, I suspect. Plus the mild recoil of the .380. My father was a world-class pistolero, and she and he spent a lot of time together at the range. Well, all of us did. Family time, yanno? But there's something about the PPK, even with her aging eyes and muscles, it shoots to her intended point of aim.

@PapaSchultz74 oh yeah. And I carry it forward. My family still goes to the range together. My wife is more of a shotgunner; my daughter is into precision rifle; my son loves his archery; I'm into all the above plus handgunning. It's expensive, frankly, but it's worth it, and then some.

Nieces and nephews, too. My brother-in-law is Quaker, but he has no problem with target shooting... So yeah, when we show up, the range is full.
