Comments by "Val Lee" (@vallee7966) on "“He Was Defeated”: Ethiopian PM Withdraws from Tigray After Months of Civil War, as Famine Looms" video.
Abiy married Zinash Tayachew, an Amhara woman from Gondar. Tigrayans are an ethnic party that dominated Ethiopian politics during a nearly thirty-year period marked by oppression and rampant corruption before Abiy came to power in 2018. They account for only 7% of the Ethiopian population.

@aemyay5169 I was answering a charge that Abiy committed genocide against his wife’s ethnic group. Both of them are Pentecostal Christians & she works with the choir. Both of them have multiple degrees. You’re right, ultimately, I don’t know 100% what he’s like. But my good friend is Ethiopian and tells me what life was like when the Tigrayans ran the country. She said they were AWFUL. That’s why she immigrated to America.

Abiy Ahmed is desperately trying to keep Ethiopia together against tribal revolts and attempted Coup de’ estat. In June 2019 both the Amharas and the Gumuz attempted coups. “According to Amnesty International, the 22–23 December 2020 attacks were by Gumuz against Amhara, Oromo and Shinasha peoples” Then, following the killing of the Oromo musician Hachalu Hundessa on 29 June 2020, Oromo riots lead to the deaths of at least 239 people. Then Tigrayans openly defied the Ethiopian government by holding their own elections in Nov 2020 & assaulting government forces, leading to the war now. If you are the PM trying to hold your country together, WTF would you do; Any better?

@aemyay5169 Abiy Ahmed took the helm of a country in conflict in 2018. Is he responsible for the slaughter of innocents by the Gumuz in ethnic warfare? Ultimately yes. But I believe he is doing his best to keep the country together. Otherwise, it disintegrates into perpetual waring fiefdoms. Could you do any better? What responsibility do each of the tribal groups have to Ethiopia as a whole? Isn’t making peace with Eritrea at least a start?
