  1. As a reminder: the president cannot pardon state crimes, only federal crimes. So if he's sent to prison on state crimes, he sits there until the state's governor pardons him (or he dies or there's a jailbreak I guess). That's why Trump's team so badly wants to cancel the Georgia trial - not only can the president not pardon a Georgia state conviction, Georgia state law prevents pardons until several years of their sentence has already been served.
