@etrice25 Lots of Americans do speak German (and other foreign languages) with a distinct American accent, but I worked on having accent-free German. In general, no matter where I visit or live, people don't label me as American and they are always surprised to find out that I'm a native Texan. In Switzerland, I've gotten asked if I'm from Brazil or South Africa in addition to Germany and Austria. Or, when I was in Egypt, people thought I was Greek and when I was in Greece, they thought I was Egyptian. When I worked in the Caribbean, people assumed that I was a Caribbean native who had been gone a while but returned, faking an American accent. But, I have an ambiguous look working for me and that makes assimilation easy. Honestly, the only giveaway that I'm American is my passport. Your results may vary!
