@Brandon Well, I can tell you that I've been in Switzerland for almost 6 years now and I am a permanent resident and I like it here. What I keep hearing is that for US citizens living abroad, eventually, "all roads lead to renunciation". When you weigh all the options, there just isn't any real advantage to keeping US citizenship, especially for people who have been gone for years and have no intentions of going back.

You don't need a lot of money. The easiest way to get started is to simply get a job in another country. I made a number of videos about it.

If your wife is a US-educated doctor, she can work just about anywhere, depending on language skills. I currently work in Switzerland and I used to work in Germany. If you are still a US citizen, you have to file a tax return annually.

@Brandon The main problem is that US citizens living abroad are treated like criminals whether they actually owe any tax or not and that's what compels people to renounce. I recently saw a study that the IRS did on this very subject and they came to the conclusion that the bulk of renunciations are an "unintended consequence" of the draconian regulations that they keep piling onto law-abiding, taxpaying citizens....They lose taxpayers in the end and don't actually catch any actual tax-evaders or money launderers.
