I moved to Switzerland to work when I was over 40 and enrolled my son in public school here. It's definitely do-able. You just have to want to do it.

@carollee3044 I'm old enough to know that if I don't do what's best for me, I won't have anything or accomplish anything. My life is in my hands and I'm completely satisfied with my own decision making which is based on what's is most beneficial for me. Don't knock it before you try it! (There will always be somebody there to tell you what won't work, how you may fail, how upset they are about your life changes, and what could go wrong. And they are to be ignored). If you always do what other people want, you'll only get what they want, not what you want. It's clear that you're watching Nomad Capitalist because you want to make some changes, and based on your comments, you're being guilt-tripped by your family members. So it appears that you are the one with some issues. Nobody in my family is bothering me.

@carollee3044 I guess not. He came later and started working here too.

@carollee3044 If you're a "single parent" then there's not a second parent in the picture, right? Or am not understanding something about this mysterious single parenthood? Anyway, my son was born in Germany when I was working there and was mostly in German daycare and schools until we moved to Switzerland when he was in 2nd grade. Not that it's your business, but his father is from Europe and comes from a country bordering Switzerland. We are international, but that's besides the point. I don't make my life decisions based on what "extended family" thinks. I do what's best for me. My son loves it here and he's lived here longer than anywhere else. If extended family wants to see us, they can definitely come and visit and some of them do.

@carollee3044 No need for worry. Worrying is pointless. Even Jesus Christ said so. My son is strong and healthy, has excellent grades in the most demanding program, speaks multiple languages, gets to go snowboarding and mountain biking in the Swiss alps, has close friends that he does all kinds of fun stuff with and has a parent and other relatives who love and support him. Put your energy on your own children, that's where it's needed.

@JQ_Cali P.S. I always put God first, and God told me to move to Switzerland. Jesus then gave me a sign that I was on the right track. Amen.
