Its one thing when you are presenting a perspective on military historical events. But when you are intentionally kicking over anthills of ideology and accepted dogma...

TIK describes himself as a "classical liberal". Web search what that means. By today's standards where the left and right mainstreams are just different flavors of stateist authoritarianism , yes, he's a Libertarian.

@Blazo_Djurovic They were never intended to eliminate the pocket. They were there to keep attriting them and preventing them from making a breakout or evacuated via sealift, which if the Red Army had left them unmolested, they might have been able to build the strength for.

@nickhambly8610 koo koo kachoo. Perhaps you should consider how you are perceived outside of the echo chamber of your own head.

Governments use spending in general, and deficit spending in particular, to influence and control economic activity. Obviously so in a socialist socioeconomic system, but also in a notionally capitalist free-market one. Dependency on public spending tends to grow over time which can create greater and greater deficits if economic strength is declining and/or mismanaged. So TIK's point is correct. Socialism as "government control of the means of production (economics)", predicates a government's ability to conduct deficit spending. You are incorrect about gold as well. A gold coin or simply a nugget dug out of the ground has an intrinsic value based on its mass and immutability that is uncontrolled by any authority such as a government or bank. Or rather, it is controlled by the market, and gov. and banks can only influence its value (by banning etc.) unlike fiat currencies which are "owned" and completely controlled by central banks as ONLY a medium of exchange.

@nickhambly8610 Probably because you are posting inflammatory speculative subjects that are only tangential to TIK's subject (and completely off track of tactical military history).

Well, they were the bad guys....
1
Pretty much. Also trying to stop the Red Army drive into Germany itself.
1
They are probably not all specifically Courland campaign pics, but generic Easter Front photos.

Both K and TIK could have/should have used that context in making their argument (counter arguement?).

Go look at what the rest of the Red Army was up to during this time period. The broader strategic picture will put Courland into perspective.

By this point I doubt many of them were still voluntarily there.
