The European Union is a Democratic Republic. As such, a Hegemony of a single political ideology is unhealthy as it becomes an echo chamber and tyranny of its own. Poland is healthy for a Democratic Europe, as it presents a differing point of view other than Leftist ideologues, that neglects its NATO obligations. We have the same issue here in the U.S. and personally I would lean towards the left camp, nevertheless I realize that in order for a healthy Democracy we must also maintain a strong right camp to balance us out in our national discourse. We need moderate left and moderate right, that's why the U.S. succeeds. We don't need Psychotic Left or Psychotic Right to take over and we need to remind ourselves of that on a regular basis.

@asgdhgsfhrfgfd1170 The reason Poland's government is very very conservative for 'your' European standards is exactly for the reason I stated in my OP. "a Hegemony of a single political ideology" and "is an echo chamber and a tyranny of its own" A tyranny of the left is no better than the tyranny of the right. Want to see a tyranny of the left, you need look no further than Spain and Venezuela. And if you think I'm over exaggerating, Spanish children and Spanish grandchildren will be paying for the excesses of the current Spaniards, for decades to come. While a quarter of Venezuela's population are currently refugees, who are being exploited by unsavory 'political and criminal' elements of the nations where they have been allowed to enter. If you think that Joe Biden is a right wing guy, then perhaps you should consider just how unbalanced your current National political discourse is, and just how much you have silenced all dissenting opinions.

@Emanon... It is not 'my GOP,' I'm a Democrat, I am not insane but you most definitively are unhinged. May I recommend that you invest in a reading comprehension course? As for the Western Europeans, they are indeed Leftists and they have silenced the Right to such a degree that almost all political discourse in Western Europe (France, Germany, Spain) has ceased.

@3x157 I assure you, I don't realize that European States are moderate. Silencing your dissenting voices to the point where you won't tolerate Christian beliefs that don't match your Atheist ideals is a lot less tolerant that you might believe. And no, Europe doesn't have to be a refugee camp any more than the United States does. Charity is excellent but once you force anyone into charity, there is a different word for that. Forced charity is called a robbery. As for you being 'special' and 'different.' The EU is essentially the United States of Europe, 50 years from now, I doubt you'll recognize where Germany ends and France begins. And that's not a bad thing but it is a thing. But the tolerance thing, you guys have to work on. Not everyone is enthusiastic about Atheism and the Central European countries lived under FORCED Atheism, behind the Iron Curtain. They don't appreciate being forced into Atheism by a bunch of pretentious know-it-alls from Western Europe. Being a center left guy, I don't mind atheism and or Religious people but I despise Ivory Tower leftists who think their way is the only way.

@applejuice7847 Democratic Republic is a form of government. The United States, is a Democratic Republic. There are other Republics, such as an Aristocratic Republic, which is what the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth was where in the Aristocrats elected the Head of State. Another one is the Merchant Republics like Venice and Genoa. You should go back to school and do a bit more studying before you talk to grown ups again.

@applejuice7847 So you lost on your initial point and admit you didn't know what a Democratic Republic was. And now I have to argue about my opinion as to whether or not the EU is a Government or an Economic Union. Once again, class is in session dunce, so pay attention: The EU mandated admission of refugees and which laws member states may or may not pass. When it did that, it became a Federal Government of sorts and it ceased to be an Economic Union. NAFTA is an Economic Union, NAFTA doesn't tell the United States how many refugees it must take, designate a common currency, provide financial bailouts, redistribute taxes between member States or build infrastructure. The EU does all of these things. The EU is the United States of Europe. It may have started as something else but it is no longer what it was.

@KrissowskiM He didn't get me, you can read my reply to him. I was being facetious or flippant when I gave my opinion, he is just too dense to have gotten it. I was also pointing out that the EU is behaving more like a Federal Government with each passing year, so it is no longer appropriate to call it an 'economic' entity when it starts to legislate.
