  1. There seems to be a fair amount of misunderstanding concerning lead contamination (both medical and environmental). The handling of metallic lead is not a major source of contamination so long as hands are well washed after contact. The lead in priming compounds and other airborne sources are a much greater risk. For the hand-loader, the biggest source of contamination is the dry tumbler, which puts lead-oxides into the air, not the metallic lead bullets (that is not to say that handling metallic lead is without risk, just that it is not the big culprit many think it is).
