Sorry, that makes no sense. That is what funnels are for. The twin islands have more to do with air ops vs ship driving. Air ops has a better aft view. The forward island is better placed to navigate the ship.

Actually one is for ship driving and the other for air control.

@wcweathe Well that is why the the Iowas were bought back in the 1980`s. A direct counter to the Kirov's.

Okay, again simple answer. Lexington and Saratoga we're conversations of battlecrusiers. Remember that Nasty Naval treaty of 1922? They were a result. Over time, refits and experience; the big guns get deleted to save weight and add AA batteries. Basically all early carriers are experimental designs in size, arms and capacity.

Same reasons the Iowa are not in use now. Huge manpower..... The trend is for less people and more automatic systems. Next is lack of steel / shipyards. The the Bethlehem Steel and huge shipyards like Brooklyn and Mare Island are no more. As to your question about missiles? The updated Iowas had Missiles. Both tomahawks and harpoon. The Russian Kirov class we're huge and missile armed as well.
