@Michael_OBrian Likely sent to the Nuke tests in 1946.

@michaelfacto4029 Not really. Too slow and no foes to fight.

@reksiohundson8706 rather than scrapping they would have been sent to the bikini test; just like Prinz Eugen.
1
@declanmccaffrey515 he already did. It's been removed for copyright violation.

@craighagenbruch3800 that's a radio antenna up front.

@chriscookesuffolk size. Basically anything under 80 ft is a boat.

@karlvongazenberg8398 actually they had drones assigned by that time.
1
@bkjeong4302 they likely would have took them to Bikini Atol. just like Prinz Eugen.
1
@champagnegascogne9755 they already had a successful purpose built carriers designs. What's the point of converting the Alaska's?
1
@reksiohundson8706 I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here? The war is over.

@bluemarlin8138 that's just word play. They were in the inventory. And they did go to sea on various ships.

@reksiohundson8706 the answer to your question is called the ddg 1000. That was their entire reason for construction. Now they are three ships looking for a mission. Currently they're using them in test with unmanned naval vehicles.

@bkjeong4302 the sinking is worthy of a Wednesday special.
1
@bkjeong4302 well that kind of gets us back to the DDG-1000 mess. Basically sold to us to do the same job.
1
@bkjeong4302 I would agree. Propaganda value was spent instead on Tokyo War trials. Hanging people, is more important than scrapping a battleship.

At last visit, there was still a surviving Asheville class PG in the Mothball yard in Philadelphia. Nice craft.
