@MonkeyJedi99 having worked with school kids daily, I can kind of picture this.

@Classicman_269 the submarines would have been needed for lifeguard Duty.

@sanguine_potato7524 that's too theoretical a question really? And as it turned out, by that time they were canceling orders.

@haydenrasmussen5117 The "Albacore hull," named for USS Albacore of 1953. WAS the result of 2 experiments by by two of the Major Submarine engineers of the time and different design theories.... Swede Momsen and Hydrodynamic hulls vs. Hyman Rickover & Nuclear power. Both are trying to achieve higher performance out of submarines. But going about it differently. Both Nautilus and Albacore were basically experimental submarines being built at the same time pushing each Concept. Admiral Momsen focused on maximum underwater speed. Admiral Rickover wanted to achieve the same goals based on a nuclear power plant and a modified Tang class submarine Hull. Albacore was commissioned in December of 1953. USS Nautilus was launched a few weeks later in January of 1954. The result was a conventional powered submarine that could out anything made before. It was this prototype had led the designers to marry the hull design of the Albacore; with the nuclear power of the Nautilus. This led to the legendary USS Thresher class.

@germanvahatov4314 probably the main difference is the increased use of welding over riveting as a main construction method.
