Decommissioned in 74. Sold for scrap 6 years later.

@brendonbewersdorf986 that's just the reality of War. Nor is there much desire in any of those countries to glorify the World War ii era. They very much rather forget it... You're very few Germans outside of family members who care about Hitler's Navy. Most Japanese are several generations removed from the war. And generally shy away from militarism. And Italians? Well they're the Italians....

Other than Fanboy love? There was no reason to.

Yes, he did. He was here last spring.

@20chocsaday it's not that big a problem being in freshwater.

@JK50with10 your average amusement park has more visitors. As interesting as we may think these ships are. They are no Six Flags park.
2
@windowdoog the British appreciate National health Care far more than they do warships. They've got Buckingham Palace and the queen to bring in the tourists. The sad fact is that when these ships were scrapped they were busy trying to rebuild the nation that had been at war and been bombed to hell. Preservation was not high in the priority list.

@windowdoog I keep bringing it up because the point is still the same. Ship museums don't make money. And other than maybe the Intrepid in New York and the Constitution in Boston do they draw crowds. If it was not for the National Park service; Valley forge would still be in business?

No ,different class.

He was there several months ago.

Some people might say the glory of a society is best shown in things other than it's militarism. The French probably care more about the cathedral of Notre Dame than they do their Navy. Few people go to Italy to look at the Sistine chapel or the Tower of Pisa only to decry the lack of World War II ships.

He was there months ago.....

What do you expect them to do? They have no cruisers to fight. And the gunfire support role was already filled.
1
@paulm7842 yes, he did. He visited on his second trip to America.
1
@Aetrion you're a couple of months out of date. Already been there, already happened...

@cipher315198 you're a few months late, but yes he saw both.
1
@Goblinstomper24 they die.....
1
@lonjohnson5161 of course there stops. No you can't shoot the ship with your own gun.
1
Ships today don't have Crew to be chipping and painting anymore.

Wrong film, wrong ship.

He did shows on New Jersey months ago.

Strangely enough? As big as a naval nerd that I am and living right across the river. Haven't been able to visit yet.😔 Of course I can say the same thing about Independence Hall or the Liberty Bell. In 51 years, I've seen the Bell once. I've driven past USS New Jersey. I used to work right outside of Camden. Just one of those tourist things I just haven't been on. I really should go.

@rbaron7352 I have been to the Olympia and Becuna. But, it has been a number of years.
1
I'd be more upset about the resting active duty ships that we have.
1
The British like National health Care more than they like ships.
1
@francoistombe that's not terribly accurate. You don't have to be a capital in order to get a cruiser. Just ask the people of California or Pennsylvania.
