Remember 9/11/2001 😔🇺🇸 from NYC, The Pentagon, and on Flight 93 Here in PA. The War on Terrorism goes on. And please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd, and all in the Commonwealth on your loss. 👸🏻🇬🇧😔

@brendonbewersdorf986 it's possible they were used for shore bombardment. Mortars also could be used to fire illumination rounds at night. Even PT boats for the US Navy were known to install them late in the war.

It's a common error. People have a hard time relating to the naval system of doing things versus say the Army. I will never understand the desire of people to speak in MOS code words.
2
@jetdriver I suppose.🤷🏽♂️ Naval people have our own quirky code Speak that makes little sense to most. At the end of the day; we don't need to be calling water fountains, Scuttlebutts, bathrooms, heads or walls, bulkheads. Etc., etc......

Minor correction. Pitcairn field was sold to the USN in 1943. 🙋🏽♂️ I miss those P-3's....😔

@iancarr8682 short answer? Weapons tend to get polished very much and shot very little. Live fire testing was not a high priority and quality control inspection of shells not as super high priority is it should have been.

@hughgordon6435 that's only in cartoons... 😒

@hughgordon6435 I suppose at the close ranges tanks operate semicolon it's theoretically possible? But the physics and trigonometry to pull off such a thing at sea is Powerball winning lottery kind of type numbers. The only thing I've ever heard of that even comes close is Carlos Hathcock and his down the scope sniper shot.

@metaknight115 still gets beat by USS Massachusetts.

@ArcticTemper it would be like every other rust bucket ship in the world. That's why we have ship storage facilities.

@metaknight115 I don't know about faulty, but they seem to have gotten a job done.
1
@metaknight115 it's a what if question with basically a crystal ball variables. You really can't give an answer to whether or not it would have made any functional change tactically.

@metaknight115 and how many hit score did the French make?
1
@metaknight115 sounds like a lot of wouda, coulda, shoulda? So there is little to suggest a performance upgrade completed or not? Still a crew with no practice. No motivation. And in Harbor. Sounds like a Sitting Duck to me?

@metaknight115 Hmmmm...... I believe the credit for that hit might go to the coastal defense battery? https://youtu.be/xKCa2B30WC0
