@rogersmith7396 there were three Midway's. CV-41,42 & 43. USS Midway, USS FDR & USS Coral Sea. The next class, the Forrestal did not commission till 1955. The Essex classes were given overhauls and conversions for jets, ASW use and as LPH. Lexington, Yorktown and the Intrepid in NYC are all 1950's conversions.

Just to be clear, we're talking about two entirely different airplanes that just happen to have the same name. The Spitfire you know only shares its name and designer with the other aircraft.

Without oversimplifying things, there are different types of steel alloy. They have different composition. Anyone who has seen TV shows about making knives has seen Steel in a forge. You just have to make it hot enough to be bendable to work on it.

Well that is actually the tradition of Army and Marine units. Battle honors are transferred to the unit and their flags. There are Army units with battle honors going back to their creation.
