The major US fail at Midway was human. The CAG of the USS Hornet flew his air group to the wrong location. Only Torpedo 8, broke ranks and found the enemy. Fighting 8 & Bombing 8 basically fly themselves out of gas. And thus the airpower of Hornet plays no more action in the battle. The overall victory skips this major fail. In effect, it became 2 vs 4 carriers instead of 3 on 4.

@silentotto5099 Midway failed because we knew the plan and time table. It expected we were in Port or reacting to the diversion attack on Alaska. Being at sea and ready at Midway knocks the plan off step.

@silentotto5099 He still had a surface force and invasion force to play with. Four carriers was more than a match for Midway airpower.

@silentotto5099 In the Japanese defense, they did try. They were not able to get updated intelligence on ships in Pearl Harbor. They had no idea Yorktown was repaired. And the sub force failed spotting the US fleet.

@D. C. Keasling He would be going out on a lonely Historical and Military strategy limb. The timing is beyond coincidental. Nor was there any great US military force in Alaska prior to the invasion.
