@imprisongroverfurr5252 pretty easy to see Williams Jennings Bryan as being in favor of isolationism policy and a smaller defense spending focus.

@darthdooku6246 honestly, Midway very well could have been a Japanese victory. You just need to combat Air Patrol to have better luck. And you wind up with Yorktown sunk and Hornet with no air power. And four carriers floating on the Japanese side. The dive bombers don't get lucky; the battle changes....

@marckyle5895 well I checked with naval History command. USS Wasp was Busy assisting the Royal Navy. USS Wasp spent the Spring of 1942 helping the British on missions to Malta.

That's probably why people cooperate with Bob Woodward on his books?.....😏

@jamesonbetts1832 most planning is a joint effort. There is almost never a sole person thought process going on. That's the role of the staff. Nimitz Nor Yamamoto just woke up in the morning and Drew up everything.....

@sharkman2857 do you realize your asking him to just play critic of other people's content? I would just go and visit some of his community links.

@robertdendooven7258 Saratoga was steaming to Pearl Harbor. They were not able to sail from San Diego until June 1st. They needed to load airplanes, stores and collect escorts. As well as a brand new group of aircrew. She arrives on June 6th. She then has to refuel. Saratoga provides replacement aircraft and air crew for both Midway and the remaining carriers in the next few days.
1
@JacksonHall611 they had six Frontline aircraft carriers. It's not really a lack of them until things go bad.
1
@tylerkenzer8354 In the original design, aircraft could take off directly from the hangar. American carriers had a similar capability with side launching catapults.
1
@bkjeong4302 I don't think any of the services in 1941 have the capacity of providing additional trained air crew? Essex doesn't even get into action for about 5 months after its commissioning.
1
@robertdendooven7258 They were coming out repairs in late May 1942. They were torpedoed on January 11th. They then go to Bremerton, WA till then. Had to travel with a green crew South to San Diego For a green air group. It took 6 days to get to Hawaii. It's just really a matter of by the time they got everything together, the battle is over. The timing is fortuitous however. The Replacements in both men and aircraft are badly required. They also have to refuel at Pearl Harbor their escorts. There is a lack of Fleet Oilers. The Air Group also is still trying to get carrier trained and Qualified.

If we give praise to Spruance for the win; would he be held equally in the negative for loss of Hornet's airpower? And possibly loss of the battle? MIdway could easily end in Yorktown sunk. Hornet useless. And the IJN Combat Air Patrol with a win and 4 CV floating.
1
@marckyle5895 they are spending 5 months in dock. They are not even doing qualifications Till they pick up the air group and escorts in San Diego. So you have a largely green crew. A green air group. And green escort.

@Drachinifel Why was Rear Admiral Fitch not given TF-17?
1
@Moredread25 interesting photograph.👨🏽💻 he does appear to be a US. Army General. And those would be Calvary boots and pants.
1
@Moredread25 based on his rank as a Lieutenant general 🌟🌟🌟; It might be Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr.? He was the commander of U.S. 10th Army at Okinawa. He was killed in action there in July 1944.
1
@Moredread25 I'm trying to figure out any other Army Lt. General s it could have been? Based on the boots, it's possibly Major General Innis Smith? Commander of I Corps and previously commander of First Calvary division?
1
@Moredread25 How about Gen. Walter Krueger? U.S. 6th Army?👨🏽💻
1
@Moredread25 Lt.General Robert Eichelberger U.S. 8th Army?
1
@marckyle5895 It is kind of hard to do worse than Hornet. You essentially wipe out half of the task force air power; with little but the sacrifice of torpedo 8 to show for it.
1
@phineasbogg1318 King was already busy with other things in the Atlantic War. Now, why not Fitch from Coral Sea is given command is my question? He was senior to Fletcher I believe?
1
Huh? Are you trying to imply there's some sort of 1940s Photoshop here?

@petriew2018 Hmmmmm.....🤔 Japanese scouting resources were limited to scout planes from their Cruisers. Infamously, one of them had Communications difficulties. The Combat Air Patrol was not bad. They were overworked by numerous attacks either play planes from Midway and Carrier torpedo attacks. They were low on fuel and ammo. But more critically lacking altitude. Down on the deck chasing torpedo planes, when the dive bombers came through. Change up the timing a few minutes; and the battle changes.....
1
@petriew2018 🏈 That is ton of Monday morning QB.
1
@razgriz9146 Well.... "Pointless" is a bit strong. As a strategy to get your Enemy to react, it made sense. In Retrospect, it is the More successful part of the Operation. You tied up military forces in the region for a year. We can look at the plans in hindsight; knowing we read the Japanese codes. The Japanese also were not able to get Aerial confirmation of the situation at Pearl Harbor.
1
That's not relevant to Midway.
