@prussianhill it may be he was likely employed his marksmanship skills on destroying sea mines. It was a common practice to shoot at swept mines to set them off. Otherwise ,the Small arms generally stay in the lockers.

@waynesworldofsci-tech the " frames" are are a reference to the Cross frame members that make up the hull. The "condition" is referring to the water tight condition status.

@themanformerlyknownascomme777 that's an impossible crystal ball question.

That's not practical or was ever considered. trying to capture the island of Oahu is just not an option. And as for trying to take out infrastructure? Again naval aircraft have a limited payload. Trying to go back for a third or fourth attack would not have been productive.

@marcusfranconium3392 that makes absolutely no sense and you want to waste your Prime resource on day one. Did Japanese did just what you asked 6 months later at Midway. Lost four carriers and four air wings that they were never able to replace. And without your plan, they were still able to take over half of the Pacific and most of the Indian Ocean by May of 1942.

@marcusfranconium3392 you realize a portion of the fuel facilities are underground? Your bombing would do nothing.

@marcusfranconium3392 calling the raid on Pearl Harbor a fail, is a gross overreach. They achieved surprise. They achieved air superiority. And they took the American battle line out of action for nearly half of the war. In exchange for a few submarines and aircrew.
