@johnnash5118 🙄 Really had to add that titbit?

Historian or not? You are not correct. The Intelligence pointed to a attack before January 1942 and in the West Pacific. All Moves and reinforcements were made with that in mind. War Warning messages were set to all command.

@bloodrave9578 They were prepared in general. Again, they were not thought to be the main target. Shanghai, Manila, Hong Kong and Singapore were. And it is forgotten they all get hit within hours. Hawaii instead focused on sabotage. Nor can you keep alert readiness for days.

@johnfisher9692 From a single engine plane at 200 MPH, the ship is the target of choice. They're going tactical. Your targets are Strategic targets. They have a boat load of tactical targets still..... Smaller ships, aircraft, barracks, AA defense. Hard to take out a tank farm with armor piercing bombs.
2
@calvingreene90 It's not as long term a thing really. Even today we have tankers offshore as floating storage farms. While Supertankers were not a thing, added tankers could have been brought in. The risk to a 3rd wave still is too high and the payload delivered too small.
2
@calvingreene90 Machine tools don't sink or explode. And gunfire does little to structures. You need Strategic bombers. Not Naval strike planes.
2
@johnfisher9692 Try instead harder items to target. 🙄 Hitting a ship is easier than a crane or any logistics target. They are big, full of fuel and ammo and in one spot.
2
@AdurianJ Nobody else did much better. Again you have not shown anything backing this bulkhead condition theory on Nevada...
2
@AdurianJ Nevada was not weak or old that day.
2
@AdurianJ Your going to have to dig into deep detail of the after action report to support that claim.
2
What is maintenance going to do vs. bomb damage?
2
@protosszocker5678 You already have a Air strike and Submarine attack on Pearl Harbor. A Surface attack? There are still functional land based aircraft. The USS Enterprise task force is near attack range. The untouched subs, PT boats and Destroyers could repel or damage a enemy surface Force.
2
@kemarisite Aggreed..... 😏 Intelligence at best pointed to the West Pacific. And that was certainly correct.
2
@TGMaker Short answer? No..... A 3rd strike has no surprise, bad visibility of targets and lack payloads to do needed damage.
2
@craighagenbruch3800 You overestimate USN shipping abilities. Limited tugs and 2500 miles sailing one way. Slow travel. Limited tugs, Oilers, and escorts from Japanese Submarines.
2
@timengineman2nd714 Limited tugs, Long travel, few escorts or Oilers.

You are gambling...... Without battle damage recon planes, you have only pilot reports to go on. A 3 rd strike lacks surprise and as it turns out Enterprise is in attack range. The gains on logistics are not a sure thing. Unlike ships, they are harder to kill and spread arround the Harbor. Ships are easier for pilots to hit. And they are full of fuel and ammo.
1
@comstr There were no gaps or flaws. It was 7:55AM on a Sunday. The ships were not at battle stations.
1
@calvingreene90 Not to mention armor piercing bombs are wrong for oil tanks...
1
@bertholdvonzahringen6799 Define Early?
1
@ProperLogicalDebate It really is not necessary.
1
Enterprise did have losses. Several planes were lost to enemy and friendly fire.
1
Bit of a stretch. The war started in 1939. They had kept up on the results.
1
@KB4QAA 😏Yeah...... okay....
1
Better question is what Modern Americans feel about it? Generally? Nothing...
1
There were 5 subs. One did hit the West Virginia.
1
Mare Island. Puget Sound. 🙄

Terrorists have used that tactic. Bomb a place. Then use a delay bomb on the first responders.
