@iKvetch558 you already have four carriers. They're only expecting to face 2.

@brendonbewersdorf986 the US Navy did. The USS Akron and USS Macon.

@brendonbewersdorf986 it's not possible to house them like a hanger. But they did have ships with Mooring masts...
4
@brendonbewersdorf986 so you want a tender? Much in the same way that we had seaplane tenders.

As an organizational thing, it's not entirely crazy. The US follow the same path of matching Air group to carrier at the beginning.

@bkjeong4302 on paper, you're right Midway should have been a victory. They just got some bad breaks. The loss of surprise and facing three carriers instead of two makes the difference. Although Hornet turns out to be mostly useless.

@iKvetch558 I wouldn't exactly call it blindness. They already had overwhelming superiority in ships and planes. So adding a 5th carrier doesn't come into play.

@brendonbewersdorf986 hmmmmm....🤔 you talkin about something the size of a supertanker with a hanger. And trying to maneuver a Airship into it at sea? problems, problems, problems....

@iKvetch558 4 is already pretty massive superiority. Yorktown is only being held together by duct tape and flex seal after Coral Sea. Hornet's Air group is basically wasted in the battle. And most of Midway's aircraft are torn apart. Overall , the IJN has the better hand. The loss of surprise makes a difference. Adding two more aircraft carriers to an already complicated plan is not a plus.

@iKvetch558 you might try the book,"Shattered Sword" by John Lyman?
2
@MaxwellAerialPhotography HMS Lord Clive Class perhaps? 6,000 tons and a 18" gun.

@graveyard1979 as with many things, technology tends to run ahead of tactics. The development of Tanks is a prime example. In both cases, people were kind of writing the book on how to use them as they went. So the flexibility of air wing organization was a trial and error thing for all navies.

@WhisperingDeath you would be surprised how many people can't swim. There are many people who joined the Navy and Marines and cannot swim a lick. But they make it part of basic training now to learn.
