@Drachinifel As a aside, Drones also make flying from Subs a thing again. Without the need for giant hangers and other accoutrements.

As far as service records for US veterans? The US national archives at St Louis handles those requests. The military records archives are stored there. The national archives has a website with the information. Be warned however, a percentage of these records were lost in a major fire in 1973. As to the boat? That would have been the unit squadron designation. Each boat has its own number.

The problem is a destroyer is just too small a platform to effectively handle aircraft.

@gurk_the_magnificent9008 I forget this channel doesn't like links. But the US Navy is working on airborne drones deployable from decoy launchers.

@Snowbird815 the term you're looking for is hydrodynamics. Yes ship designers use test tanks, the same way aircraft designers use wind tunnels.

@johnfairhurstReviews I doubt there was any type of Iran nuclear inspection type deal to verify.

@Snowbird815 well you can just look at the ships for your answer. Superstructures were built for function. Things like protection, and weight savings are far more important. Where aerodynamics would be an issue? The exhaust smoke. You would like to design your superstructure and exhaust stacks to move the exhaust smoke efficiently and clear as possible. Thus providing clear vision for fire control spotters; and to reduce issues with antennas and radars.

@johnfairhurstReviews you have to look in the context of post World War I. Disarmament was in vogue. Arms treaties did not have a inspections and verifications clauses as found in today's negotiations. In much the same way the League of Nations had it's issues and fell apart.
