@thehandoftheking3314 Yes... It was called RATO (Rocket Assisted Take Off). Not for carrier fighters much, but often for bomber and seaplanes. Detachable rockets were used well into the 1960's.

@brendonbewersdorf986 Why would they? They have little sea trade and no colonial interests to secure.

@Archie2c just think of it as a very large remote control boat. And considering the technology of the time, likely took up a lot of room. But the principles are basically the same.
2
@brendonbewersdorf986 Well.... Neville Chamberlain solved the issue. 😏

@thehandoftheking3314 now you're thinking more of like a built-in rocket assist motor. The Air Force had such an aircraft for test pilot use. The Lockheed nf-104. This was a Lockheed Starfighter with a rocket motor assist and its tail. As well as thrusters for flight control. Legendary test pilot Chuck Yeager had an accident in one of these. But it was able to push the aircraft to altitudes near 100,000 ft. It was also the use of rockets and what was known as a zero length takeoff launcher. This was basically a catapult system for use on a mobile truck or perhaps a ship launch. Again using a rocket to give an instant take off boost.

@mannys9130 I think you're confused? Mankind was not horrified enough. And we spent the entire Cold War developing more of them and Thermonuclear ones.

@tinafoster8665 aviation fuel and explosives don't mix. It basically boils down to that. Ship fires are a very unique beasts. It's possible to have different classes of fire in progress. ( Class A, b, c, d)

@fulccrum2324 are you really that too lazy the scroll?
1
@Ralph-yn3gr that makes absolutely no sense. You do realize the purpose is arms limitation?
1
@Zajuts149 of course.
1
@arrvidcarlson8107 well , we had something called the Great depression.
1
@mannys9130 Great lengths? HMMMM....🤔 considering the volume of tactical nuclear weapons, not really. And trust me we were very prepared and ready to use on several occasions.
1
@Ralph-yn3gr not when your goal is to turn swords into ploughshares. They called it the war to end all wars for a reason. It was a worthy goal.

@lonjohnson5161 moviegoers don't want to be seasick. And the guns are stabilized. But if you want to rock and roll with waves? Try Das Boot. Riding a U-Boat Heavy Seas will make you want to hurl.
1
@scottjennings503 you might try the Eagle boats of WW 1.

@marvinthemartian9584 it depends on the level of the offense? Even in today's Navy, there is criminal and then there is non-judicial punishments. These typically range anything from confinement to quarters or loss of privileges.

@jasondouglas6755 you have a very interesting question! And after thinking it over for about 20 minutes, if Crete is held by the allies; axis oil production in the Polesti oil field enters easy bomber range.
