  159. Another WorldView Is Possible I disagree on the war on drugs for the same reasons that I disagree with him control. Now I understand the will to move humanity towards world peace, but this is a shift that is easiest for people like us. While you believe that we live in a violent society, I would argue that the West has never lived in such peace. We have so much access to resources that it has become normalized, this is what we call stability. This sets the bar roo high in the West. Many of the product we consume and purchase are luxuries made at the expense of others in less developed, less privileged places. So to sustain what we have oppressed the many. At the same time we equate the lack of access of some people here to the oppression of the people who made them. This isn't wrong because it is all relative but it goes to show that the moral economy of the West cannot be maintained without the economic oppression of others. Our experience is so subjective that you opinion of control and violence is only representative of yourself and you immediate culture and affiliates. Your values and interpretation in other places might appear bad, dangerous, and/or just wrong in general. The about applying your vision is that we are in a new world. No one knows how society will work with the size and demands we see now and in the future. The cohesiveness we once had is gone so to regulate the actions of everyone would inherently be oppressive. Neither you nor I can prognosticate what is the best course for so many different people, but with such divisiveness and mutual hate I do not see a time soon where we will have less guns. This is an age of fear, hope, and anxiety. As a vet I do worry that the stratification and galvinization of America has irreparable changed its fabric.

  160. Another WorldView Is Possible while I appreciate your comment and agree with alot of the things you say, I am not a troll. At this moment I am exploring the libertarian slash right wing narrative and I do regularly, if not constantly have to argue with their sometimes obvious bigotry. California is an interesting place because alot of the marginalized groups there are victims of violence either from police or other marginalized minority groups who share and operate in the same social ecosystem. I use that because the fluid nature of an ecosystem reflect the ever-changing state of the radicalized narratives that make up their experiences and how they are perceived. Gun laws that take away the right feom these marginalized groups hurt the most vulnerable. This is why we see undocumented workers with illegal firearms. You have things like "payday muggins" (due to lack of bank access) and other acts of violence that cause people to arm themselves since they fear going to the police. I would avoid comparing our society to Australia because we have a different history and culture, and guns are a part of that culture. And since you like statistics you should look at how many "assault rifles"are used in crimes it's isn't many. Yes they are good hunting rifles and yes they are great for home defense. This is all my opinion though. Oh and turning point USA provides just as decisive discourse as those they usually debate. It's fun to watch a shit show. Thank you for you comment and have a nice day.

  244. Shawn Crawford there is alot to unpack here. I agree, we have to find away to get illegal guns. Gun show loop hole isn't real, you mean personal gun sales; which are regulated but not enforced like they should be. An option the people have come up with to make sure we don't not sell a gun to the wrong person is to invite the buyer to an ffl seller and pay 15$ for a background check to make sure. This is some we do on our own accord because if I sell a gun to someone who wants to break the law, I am liable. This should be a requirement for gun sales, and it is something we are beginning to advocate. Involuntary manslaughter for possession of an unregistered firearm ascribes intent. Many undocumented people lack the ability to rely on the state for protection so they arm themselves with what is usually an unregistered firearm. So that policy would affect marginalized members of the community the most. If you would like I can point out a great study done on radicalization between minorities that list this as an issue that criminalizes Mexicans. As an anthropologist, veteran, and former NRA member I can say that there are too many conflict of interest and the views of the NRA are not representative of a great majority of its members. Unfortunately without reducing illegal guns as the priority, confiscation and seizure will have the most impact on law abiding minorities living in high crime areas. It may hurt the feelings of "patriots" living in the boonies, but it's more likely to criminalize the poor, minorities and marginalized people; and will inevitably get more kids killed. This is only my opinion based on my life experience, and from research. But thank you for you opinion. Best wishes
