  3. The real question is, what have they been doing there for 46 years? Would the situation be worse, better or the same if the UN hadn't gone in? Curiously, when you really press the matter, both sides want the UN peacekeepers monitoring whatever tenuous peace exists in between the clashes, although Israel in particular obeys the UN only when it happens to feel like it.

  4. That's simply not true. By the way, what prevents you from petitioning your government to send in UN peacekeepers of your own, who'd do things differently? Maybe you can even join them. Keyboard warriors can only do so much!

  5. Truth be told, UNIFIL is more like a monitoring mission. The adversaries, Hezbollah and the IDF, keep the peace if they don't feel like fighting. UNIFIL can only point fingers, but neither side really cares.
