  6.  @davidmitchell3020  "If necessary"? We're jointly protecting trade routes in the Red Sea as we speak, at the expense of the taxpayer. What if China makes the Panama Canal part of its Belt and Road Initiative and decides that non-BRICS countries suddenly pay twice the toll? That would make the Suez Canal all the more important, but in order to get there, US-bound ships have to dodge Houthi missiles. Moreover, the US relies entirely on imports for two dozen or so mineral commodities, including rare earth metals, without which domestic manufacturing would grind to a halt. Inevitably, supply chains are global. Russia and China won't hesitate to hold the world to ransom with them.

  7. The real question is, why does Russia prolong this nasty business? Russia could comply with UNGA Resolution ES‑11/1, which demands a full withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine. The war ends then and there.
