@ericp1139 About those perks, the unequal US healthcare system works out twice as expensive per capita as universal healthcare in the EU countries. Think about it, if you were to introduce universal healthcare in the US as well, you could boost your defence expenditure even further! Would that be great!

The US has a two-war doctrine, as in being able to fight two simultaneous major conflicts. That requires more percentage points of defence spending than just containing Putin's Orcs, i.e. NATO's raison d'etre, which is Europe's first and foremost concern. Actually, Donald Rumsfeld wanted the additional capability to embark on 4 military adventures simultaneously, too. Since the ones he did embark on quickly turned into unpopular wars, I'm not sure if the doctrine still holds. Dubya's and Rumsfeld's non-NATO escapade in Iraq was a bit of a downer.

@-Nobody-1 It's up to you how to spend the money saved on America's healthcare system if universal healthcare were to be introduced. My somewhat cynical take is that the savings wouldn't go to the poor. America needs its poor suckers poor.

In the mean time, India grows desperately reliant on US and French weapons and military technology, since its former main supplier, Russia, is out for the count. Comment from a position of strength, not weakness.
