I can't help but notice that your liberal gun laws haven't been a success formula democracy-wise. The Democracy Index puts the United States in 25th place and categorizes the US as a flawed democracy. Perhaps the compilers at The Economist don't put much value on guns laws, or you've got serious problems elsewhere. My guess is both.

@LNVACVAC Note that The Economist's analysts aren't giving top marks to the UK either. However, I don't think having a monarch is weighing down the UK. Many among the top 10 democracies in the world are monarchies. Maybe you have a fairy tale view of them, like oh-so many Americans?

@LNVACVAC Go on... what exactly makes a modern monarchy more exploitable than a republic? You claim otherwise, but could it be that you don't understand that these monarchs are mere figureheads? I see it all the time.
