  4. Nothing strange about it. Populists capitalise on people's fears, look for scapegoats and make unrealistic promises, all for the sake of gaining power. Your definition suggests that anyone who's elected to office is per definition a populist. Popular yes, but populist, no. More difficult words you need explained?

  5. Perhaps you should seek advice from someone, because populism predates the EU. He may not have coined the term, but Hitler contributed greatly to the definition. Karl Marx, too, was very helpful. I don't know about your political leanings, but you've got the blame game down pat. You should be talking about fudged elections. Your wonder boy, Farage, and his fellow Ukippers couldn't get first-past-the-post in Britain, but they were a shoo-in for the European Parliament. Another piece of advice. Don't count on the Eastern Europeans' support. They still hate your guts for what transpired during and after WW2 and things aren't changing for the better. Brexit is slashing the stream of EU money that's flowing their way. Who knows, maybe one spiteful member insists on organising a referendum about the Brexit deal. It takes just one to nix it. You can't cry about it either, because it's the will of the people.

The Germans know they gave worse than they got, and they got the chance to build a free and prosperous society, a privilege that wasn't afforded to Eastern Europe, partly thanks to you. Moreover, the Eastern Europeans' rightful grievances vis-a-vis Britain haven't really been dealt with. Britain could get the ball rolling by saying "sorry". Come on, you need all the friends you can get!

  7. For letting Uncle Joe have his wicked way with Eastern Europe. If you need a particularly glaring example of British betrayal, try the Baltic countries. In desperation, Churchill signed the Atlantic Charter in 1941, hoping it would draw the US into the war, but when the US had entered the war and Nazi-Germany was done for, he chose to ignore all the lofty talk about self-determination. No doubt, it would've set an awkward example for Britain's already unruly colonies. Evidently, keeping the British Empire together was of overriding importance, and wasn't Stalin following in Britain's footsteps in establishing colonies in Eastern Europe? So you admit that the Eastern Europeans aren't your friends. Good that we got that settled.

  8. I wouldn't have expected that Britain rolled out a red carpet for the Soviets to annex the Baltic states. Churchill withholding Britain's seal of approval wouldn't have resulted in a shooting war, which the USSR could ill afford either. Britain was slightly more sensical in decolonising than the others, but it did so reluctantly all the same. All hasn't been forgiven and forgotten in the former colonies. Having lived in two, it always cracks me up when you Brextremists start daydreaming about a restored Commonwealth. Even as a sports and culture club, the likes of India and South Africa think it's a marvellous opportunity for payback.

  9. Please be specific. Which EU members maintain their colonies by brute force? You may want to forget your colonial past, but the problem is, your former victims won't. At long last we agree on something. Britain doesn't belong in the EU.
