@rosablanche Per definition, the EU can't lurch to the left while the electorate goes the other way. The EU is the sum of its parts, its member countries.

@rosablanche You're wrong on all accounts. I happen to know Verhofstadt. I don't find him agreeable as a person, but a leftie he ain't. He's an MEP and directly elected, like your precious Farage. Juncker isn't leftist either. He was appointed by the European Parliament (in a vote involving all Brit MEPs, including bad boy Farage), so if your theory were correct, Juncker wouldn't have made EC president. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

You should be equally concerned about the plight of citizens of a number of nations that still retain Queen Elizabeth as their official heads of state. If things were different for them, the UK would easily gain a million or so immigrants, many of them much worse off than the poorest of the poor in the EU.
