  2. ***** You're excused... I guess. "Future Belgians" would've been more appropriate, because the country only came into being 15 years after the Battle of Waterloo. Interestingly, Belgium remains as divided as it was during the battle. In our lifetimes, we can look forward to a political Waterloo that sees Belgium split into the Republic of Flanders and the Kingdom of Wallonia. And maybe there'll be a City State of Brussels, too.

  3. ***** Napoleon again. He lost both present-day Netherlands and Belgium when just about everyone in Europe ganged up on him. I'm not "kinda" confused about Belgium but very much so. It's a country that begs for a mercy killing.

  4. ***** Belgium is just an example of how two rights make a wrong. It may be a non-country, but it's certainly not a non-entity. Culturally speaking, Belgium is one of the richest countries in Europe. Architecture, art, literature, education, sports, cuisine -- they're there with the best of them. The northern half has a vibrant economy, too. Brussels becoming to the EU what Vatican City is to the Catholic Church is actually a grand idea.
