@halilt4408 Yeah, about that. Turkey would have to fulfil the Copenhagen criteria. They're not exactly compatible with Turkey's loopy Erdoganomics, its scant regard for democracy, the rule of law, human rights, respect for and protection of minorities <cough>Kurds<cough>.

None, I suppose. About them dinosaurs, did you know there's a tax on predicting the EU's imminent demise? It pays the public debt of all EU member countries and then some. Oh, and remember to laud BRICS. Don't get sloppy now.

@halilt4408 When they get their ducks in a row, still developing countries tend to grow faster than fully developed ones. Something about all potential being carefully tapped in the latter, causing growth to plateau. Anyhoo, Erdoganomics soon put a stop to all that. Erdogan's wholesale crackdown on opposition forces with the coup attempt as an excuse ruined Turkey's chances for the foreseeable future, as Turkey's democratic babies went out with the bathwater.

@halilt4408 Be that as it may, as an EU member Turkey would've dragged the union through the mud its with dubious economic practices and coups attempts. What you call a missed opportunity, I call a dodged bullet.

@halilt4408 If Turkey had no appetite for democracy without the EU stuffing it into its face, it all turned out all right, didn't it? Erdogan can be true to himself, and Turkey isn't saddled with pesky institutions that it didn't want in the first place. You seem to ascribe magical powers to the EU, as if it could reform Turkey, without Turkey truly wanting it.
