Sheep farmers as far afield as New Zealand are grateful for Brexit. Own goals are allowed. Not clever, but allowed.
42
Why? China practically has the whole of Russia as a neo-colony. China can set the prices for oil and gas as it sees fit and Russia just has to grin and bear it.
38
Anything embarrassing that transpires in Russia is an immediate candidate for a cover-up.
36
@briancarno8837 Uh, Ukraine is attacking here, not fleeing. The only fleeing soldiers we've seen in this conflict were the Russians troops that were routed in the Battle of Kharkiv in 2022.
32
Russia's African military junta allies would do well to pay attention and draw the necessary conclusions.
27
@weseehowcommiegoogleis3770 And Putin's Rosgvardiya have spontaneously coloured their underwear brown.
23
@JohnCSmith-lp1qr I don't find any credible information to that effect, but I suppose 'credible' doesn't appear in your vocabulary?
18
@Nick_S0 Another clue is that the Russian army didn't lift a finger to stop Wagner from marching on Moscow. Putin must've been livid. And now the heads are rolling.
17
@alistairbeveridge2753 Who crossed the border and in which direction?
16
You forgot Armenia. The country designated Putin a fugitive from justice on war crimes charges.
16
@davidnavarro4821 Not Putin-friendly, but Scholz is the timid sort.
16
Undoubtedly this reflects very badly on Russia.
13
@mortvald It's interesting that Trump isn't bound by anything his predecessors did or promised, but Zelenskyy is not afforded the same privilege. Amerithink.
13
Both the EU and the US struggle to satisfy Ukraine's demand for artillery shells. Why? Artillery doesn't feature so prominently in their defence strategies. Airpower does.
12
@obviouslytrollmster1532 Just the other day, Assad was pitifully begging for support from all and sundry, Russia included. That's not how hostages behave.
12
@MrGatzby Yet Putin has gone on record saying that Ukraine is not a country and that the Russians and Ukrainians are one people. So why would he stop at Donbas? Moreover, language doesn't make the Donbassians Russian. Try telling the Irish that they're English. I dare you. And Boris is not my man by any means. Wrong nationality, for starters, and wrong union, too.
11
@rickydaley3347 Russia had some combat hardened troops, but they've foolishly expended them, only to replace them with barely-trained convicts. That's why they're welcoming North Koreans. It's a sign of desperation all right.
11
@davidjones-wt2qq The Russians are negotiating an orderly withdrawal from said bases. Staying is not an option.
11
@spxram4793 Practically lost as well.
11
@MrGatzby So you would want us to believe. In October 2022, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution that deemed the referendums and the annexations illegal with a whopping majority, 143 vs. 5. Only two UN members have recognised the occupied territories as Russian. To add insult to injury, Syria is was the other
10
@eyaklen4804 Sure, in WW2, the Western Allies were supplying the Soviet Union. Now, the West is supplying Ukraine. Makes all the difference. Slava Ukraini!
10
@Art-ot2jn None, in fact. No NATO soldiers fight in Ukraine. Desperate Krembots might as well claim that UN forces fight in Ukraine, because we're all UN members.
9
The sooner we see Musk depart for Mars, the better.
9
Who knows, but it looks like Iran's proxy wars will be scaled down if not stopped altogether. The return on investment appears negative.
9
Trudeau laughed at Trump, too.
8
@imaanhadi1340 You're a bit of a mess, aren't you? Your random accusations have no bearing on anything I wrote earlier.
8
@ЮрийКастро-м5в And now you're on a watchlist. Don't bother to apply for French nationality.
8
@miteshghadi3146 Russia has tasted defeat many, many times over, so it's far from a first. Do we need to go over the more recent ones?
8
You're right -- you are blind. You're blind to the fact that Hamas doesn't represent the Palestinians as a whole. The Palestinian Authority does, and they've signed on to the two-state solution. The trouble is, Israel drags its feet. Netanyahu was only too happy with the Hamas-Fatah split, because it put off Palestinian independence indefinitely.
7
I thought China already had the bear locked in a bear hug.
7
@Hochspitz Nah, the facts favour Macron. Trump only has alternative truths on offer -- and few takers.
7
Let's be honest. NATO expansion is a nuisance to Putin, because it underscores Russia's declining regional influence. But it's not the threat he makes it appear to be, because NATO is not launching any unprovoked attack against Russia, not now nor at any time in the future. As to Putin's desires, he simply wanted Ukraine, and the NATO expansion excuse had to do for lack of a more convincing one. The excuse is backfiring on him now, because Sweden and Finland are joining NATO as a direct consequence of his Russian expansionism (read: imperialism). No Russian with half a brain can ignore the political defeat that Putin is about to endure.
7
Nuclear weapons aren't of consequence here, so why make a big deal out of them? There's a very steep threshold for resorting to nuclear weapons. You don't see headlines that say: "Nuclear powers US, UK and France send conventional weapons to Ukraine", do you?
7
Wouldn't Russia have to take Odesa first? It's 14 times the city that Bakhmut was, and Bakhmut proved an almost insurmountable obstacle to Russia.
6
@pedtrog6443 Typically, damage to undersea cables is from fishing gear or anchors dropped on them. Dragging anchors for miles on end is a different kettle of fish.
6
Turkey won't stand for it. Turkey has clout with the new regime, not Russia.
6
Priggie shat his pants. Zelenskyy was the one who wanted -- and got -- ammo.
6
Hello, sad conspiracy theorist.
6
Family guy gets the American people so right.
6
@projectedone So, let us get this straight. In your assessment, if you don't submit to Russia's bullying, Russia is within its rights to invade? For your info, practically no-one at the UN General Assembly, where all the world's countries gather to have their say, sees it that way.
6
Sweden's surface ops need work. Unlike Finland, Sweden failed to throw the book at Yi Peng 3, the Chinese ship that cut two undersea cable near Öland. It was the Royal Danish Navy that finally detained the ship.
6
Cats sometimes purr to put themselves at ease. Krembots have a similar coping strategy. They post reassuring comments on YouTube.
6
@bryandimery6509 The actual 21% interest rate is plenty humiliating. And we will see it jump to 23% soon enough.
6
@johnmaguire2185 Nah, nobody understand Trump's thought process, not even the man himself.
5
@TomWakeman-ul7om Syria was under Ottoman and French rule. Hard to put blame on the Brits here.
5
A shrinking one, too.
5
Russia, as we know it, is finished. You just don't know it yet.
5
Boys and girls, user infopirates here has reached the so-called 'bargaining' stage of the grieving process, and in record time, too. However, I suspect that in his haste, he has skipped the preceding 'denial' and 'anger' stages. That's no good. 'Acceptance' can only come after experiencing all the previous stages of grief, including 'depression'.
5
@garryh3126 We rate among one of the smaller countries in Europe, but we alone can field 870,000 trained troops. If we were to apply the same soldiers-to-citizens ratio to the US, you'd have to field 53 million troops. It seems you are more than 50 million soldiers short.
5
@rogerrussell9544 The Russian warships will need to sail to Baltiysk or Kronstadt in the Baltic, or alternatively, all the way to Murmansk in the Arctic. It remains to be seen if they make it without breaking down en route.
