@Zelda_Kitty If sisu isn't genetic, what is it then? I'm genetically 100% Finnish, but my father was adopted as a war orphan by a Dutch family, while my mum ended up in Sweden as a child war refugee. On a whim, I left for Finland to do my mandatory conscription, rising to reserve officer rank. I continued serving as a short-term contract soldier and a two-time UN peacekeeper. Sisu may have helped me along a bit.

To be honest, it was a gesture of defiance. Molotov cocktails weren't very effective weapons then, nor are they now. In fact, on today's ABC-protected tanks they inflict paint damage. A Molotov cocktail does come in handy when burning abandoned Russian tanks, but I understand the Ukrainians prefer to repurpose them.

@Wezqu You're perpetuating a myth. Molotov cocktails weren't "very effective" in the Winter War either. When armour is properly used with supporting infantry, the defenders never get within throwing range. There are numerous Finnish reports to this effect. Of course, the media played it up and the authorities let them, because it was good for morale and it diverted from the fact that Finland was desperately short of anti-tank guns in the Winter War.

@Wezqu Wikipedia has this to say on the matter: "Puna-armeija menetti talvisodan taisteluissa 1 919 panssarivaunua, joista 436 tulipalon vuoksi. Suurin osa lienee polttopullolla sytytettyjä.[5] Realistinen arvio polttopulloilla onnistuneista panssarivaunujen tuhoamisista lienee kymmenissä, ei sadoissa [6]."

@Wezqu It's not contradictory by any means. I'm sure those tanks were set on fire with Molotov cocktails, but only after being abandoned and/or disabled. My uncle used to relate how they found an abandoned Russian tank and used straw from a nearby barn to set it alight. Next, you're going to tell us that straw made for a very efficient anti-tank weapon.

@Wezqu Yes, if your feelings are hurt this easily, please leave.
