Diplomat? Nationalism and populism don't work so well in diplomacy.

Well, he is wearing flip-flops. One side reads "TRUMP BAD" and the other "TRUMP GOOD". They're easily turned.

@SynthwaveDuck I'm at a loss. nationalism /ˈnaʃənəlɪz(ə)m/ noun identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations. How does that work well in international diplomacy?

@SynthwaveDuck I suppose win-win doesn't appear in your vocabulary.

@SynthwaveDuck Diplomacy is mostly about soft power. As a populist and a nationalist, JD Vance has to pander to an electorate that has little interest in international affairs, other than wanting to see him stick it to those nasty foreigners. Similarly, foreign leaders won't love the idea of actively working with such a self-serving character for fear of an electoral backlash. In other words, Vance's posturing will squander a lot of goodwill internationally. That alone makes him a poor diplomat.

@SynthwaveDuck "Vance is Vice President"? There's still the little matter of an election. You're confused on so many levels. Prime ministers, especially in parliamentary democracies, are heads of government. More often than not, they nominally answer to a monarch or president, a master of ceremonies as it were. Some presidents do have residual powers and act as advisers to the cabinet, not unlike your VPs, but we tend to elect accomplished statesmen, not fledglings like JD Vance. A foreign minister -- or the secretary of state in your esoteric parlance -- is the top diplomat in charge of foreign affairs. A vice president is not, not even in your system.
