In one word, wumaos.

By incurring more debt, obviously.

Sinopharm hasn't delivered the 10 million doses it pledged to the WHO either. It seems they're still "in production".

Your figure conflicts with those released by the WHO. Western countries top the Covid-19 vaccine donor list, both in terms of money and vaccines. China has pledged 10 million doses to Covax, the UN's worldwide vaccine distribution program. Now which is more, 10 million or 500 million?

@greentraveler4114 Don't you worry your pretty little head. I'm neither from the USA nor am I mathematically challenged. But I am afraid that your reading comprehension sucks. Selling and donating are two different things. Don't compare apples to oranges.

The donation will be made through the Covax scheme, so vaccine diplomacy doesn't enter into it. You should reserve your criticism for the Russians and the Chinese.

@cyjaseyoung8004 You were falsely attributing dubious motives to something that is clearly altruistic in nature. You're not helping the global vaccination effort by shedding doubt on it.

@sameersamuel5110 Covax is administered by the WHO, an UN agency. Everything has to be out in the open. I think donors should take credit for their contributions, if only to persuade others to match their contributions for PR reasons. Vaccine diplomacy, however, implies that the donor demands favours in return. Covax makes that nigh impossible.

@sameersamuel5110 Sure, there's a PR aspect to it as well. Are you new to this world? China wasn't a leading donor to Covax, nor one in direct donations, so how would there be a pressing reason for Western nations to donate more vaccines on account of China? I see you still don't understand vaccine diplomacy. It's not about good publicity, but about wanting favours in exchange for donations. If you need an example, think Trump pressing Zelensky for dirt on the Bidens in exchange for military aid. The point here is that we don't know about China's conditions, because they're kept under wraps. In Covax, there are no self-serving conditions.

@sameersamuel5110 "Dude", I really don't care how you choose to define the term. China has donated 12 million doses directly yet only pledged 10 million to Covax -- pledged, not delivered. Comparing apples to apples, 10 million and 500 million -- that's a vast difference don't you think? Also, whether you choose to define the Covax altruistic or not is of no concern to me. If at least you agree that there are degrees of altruism, then you'll have to agree that the degree to which the US is altruistic is higher than China's. 50 times more altruistic?

This is under Covax. Per definition, donors don't decide who gets the vaccines.

Let's see. For now, China lags behind. Reportedly, China has donated 22 million doses thus far. Do the math.
