@gooldii1 I once witnessed a single Swedish double-barrelled mortar system land 14 rounds on target simultaneously. Range, of course, is more limited than that of a howitzer. Sweden has GPS-guided rounds for it, too.

@archeroo3243 Right, but if you want to compare apples to apples, you'll have to look at spending per capita by percentage of GDP. Estonia tops the list. Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia and Sweden outspend the US, too. Where do you think our euros come from, if not from taxpayers?

That's what I've been saying as well. With its big industrial base, Germany can crank out PzH 2000s, Leopard 2s, Panzerfaust 3s and EuroSpikes to replace the weapons donated by others to Ukraine.

@reflection8578 If you want to be specific about it, your M-777s can't go head-to-head against Russian self-propelled artillery. It's not like the Russians are only now learning about counter-battery fire. Perhaps you should hold off patting yourselves on the backs until the US starts donating M-109s to Ukraine -- like many European countries already have. Germany's PzH 2000 is a generation ahead of the M-109, too. Many European armies have discarded their M-109s in favour of PzH 2000s, which Germany is donating to Ukraine.

@archeroo3243 It's not like Germany has many PzH 2000s taking up storage room. Let's face it, the Bundeswehr is still in a dilapidated state, and giving away materiel sorely needed for training isn't going to help it overcome its sad state of affairs. What Germany can do is pledge to replace its NATO partners' excess self-propelled artillery with new PzH 2000s -- Germany is manufacturing them, after all. In this case, the US is more deserving of your indignation. Why isn't the US providing M-109s to Ukraine? They have literally thousands of them, many just gathering dust.

I don't quite see it the same way. Ukraine is seriously depleting Russia's war machine -- something NATO would have to do if Russia were foolish enough to turn on a NATO country. Helping Ukraine is an investment in world peace in the sense that after suffering a hiding in Ukraine, Russia will spend a looong time licking its wounds. No more Russian military adventurism at the expense of its neighbours for the foreseeable future. It's saddening that it all comes at such a steep price for Ukraine, but that's why we owe it to them to help -- without expecting repayment.
