There's a distinct difference. In the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, Russia promised to respect Ukraine's existing borders, which encompassed Crimea and Donbas. I suppose Russia's signature means nothing.

@youknowme2003 I cited the Budapest Memorandum. Over to you, cite a treaty that forbade NATO from expanding. UNSCR 1244 refers to the territorial integrity of Yugoslavia. Where is this 'Yugoslavia' on the world map? Also, UNSCR 1244 set the stage for Kosovo's independence. Tell me more about your alleged NATO lies (the US doesn't come under my responsibility). Specifics, please -- no more vague accusations.

@kuzma2214 Serbia is one of the legal successors of Yugoslavia. Consequently, Serbia had to reapply for UN membership.

@grwth4722 That's a very imaginative rationale. UNSCR 1244 doesn't preclude Kosovo's independence. Rather, the opposite is true. Also, Serbia's constitution is not an overriding principle in the matter.

@xcitemex6353 You're thick in the skull. I've told you time and again that I'm not Ukrainian. I wouldn't mind, but it's just not case. We do have a fine family tradition of destroying Orcs, however. My grandfathers, great-uncles and uncles weren't ones to brag, but judging from their medal hauls they were quite proficient at it.

@xhoi96 Sorry to burst your bubble, but Albanians are not a native population, as in a UN-recognised indigenous people. In Europe, indigenous peoples are few and far between. Only the Basques and the Sardinians number in the millions.

@markharcourt2214 Not that I think you have the intellectual capacity to comprehend the issues at hand, but I'll try to explain anyway. The elections in question were more like a poll for the upcoming general election, which, unlike these, truly matters. If anything, the outcome showed that the Netherlands sorely needs to rethink its unwieldy system of governance, with its directly elected regional governments and -- the silliest of them all -- water boards. Good governance can't be based on protest votes alone. The electorate knows it, too, but this time, they could get away with it.
