@themsmloveswar3985 You raise a valid question. But how valid is Assad's mandate to govern over Syria? If a leader turns against his own people, even massacres them, it's a very valid question indeed.

@sPACEmANtYLERSPACE Then Russia should stop destabilising its neighbours. If Russia poses no threat, there's no need for them to seek security guarantees from NATO. When will Putin realise that you reap what you sow?

Both desperately crave attention.

In a democracy, lying politicians get their comeuppance. In a dictatorship like Russia, they're made president-for-life.

@bobtheagent9087 Who's claiming otherwise? I'm not playing your whataboutism game.

@Pfonyx Funny you should make an example out of Finland. For a country of its size, Finland has a huge military reserve and a strong will to defend itself. That Finland hasn't joined NATO -- despite closely cooperating with it for more than a decade -- is because the prevailing opinion was that there's no urgency and keeping the option open would also keep Russia at bay. The situation has changed dramatically over the course of a month. More Finns now support membership than oppose it. The Ukraine Crisis -- a crisis of Putin's own making -- is clearly the reason for such a radical reversal.

@sergueileonardoafonin7950 Even if there's no nuclear counterstrike by submarines, the nuclear winter will do the trick.

Stratos I Next, you're going to argue that the preparation for Operation Barbarossa was nothing more than a playful attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records with the largest picnic ever.

@deborahdean8867 The international community seems to have no problem with Ukraine's elections in 2014 and 2019. Sadly, the same cannot be said about the Crimean status referendum of 2014. That one was overwhelmingly rejected.
1
@deborahdean8867 You're poorly informed. The UN's General Assembly deemed the Crimean status referendum of 2014 invalid, 100 to 11. The same resolution confirmed Ukraine's sovereignty over Crimea. Putin himself admitted to the little green men being his. Don't make a liar of your idol.

@AndroidFerret Where exactly are these rocket silos that you speak of? The only ones that I'm aware of are in Kaliningrad and they're Russian. If nukes are the problem, why doesn't Putin push for nuclear disarmament?

@sPACEmANtYLERSPACE Yeah, not playing whataboutism with you. If you want to compare notes with an American so that the two of you can agree which sucks more, Russia or the US, I'm afraid you'll have to keep looking. As to Ukraine's supposed coup, it must've been a very short-lived affair, because Ukraine was very quick to follow up with a free and fair election. Contrary to overly optimistic Russian projections, the Right Sector was a complete washout. Crimea could've taken their case to the UN and sought unification with Russia that way. They must be kicking themselves for letting Putin spoil things for them. Crimea is now condemned to international isolation. A pariah state within a pariah state.

@kostadinivanov8064 So you profess that the same would've happened in Donbass that actually did happen in Chechnya?

Let's carve out spheres of influence again. It's 1945 after all.

@jtruque I have never understood why you Putin fanboys think this is a good argument. Mexico and Cuba have no interest in advancing the imperial ambitions of a hasbeen/wannabe superpower half a world away. Should they become agents of North Korea, too?
