Whether he wants it or not is inconsequential. What matters is that Russia is not only a social and an economic failure, but also, a military one. Russia won't play in the big leagues in our lifetimes.

In the very likely event that Finland will join NATO, there's bound to be an arrangement similar to that of Norway, meaning no nukes and no permanent NATO bases in the country. The same goes for Sweden. Both countries are inherently defensible, and not lacking in weapons, skill and motivation either.

@jgee9160 Ukrainians took part in a few Winter War battles. The Soviet forces were mainly composed of ethnic Russians, however.

Putin will be saddled with crippling sanctions no matter what. He can only hope to stay in power if he manages to foment trouble somewhere else, like in Georgia, or in Moldova. Even if the Russians buy his excuses for yet another foreign adventure, it will be another humiliating military debacle. Russia has feet of clay, that much is clear.

@mahbubahmed6310 Too bad Russia won't come to your help you if an armed conflict breaks out between India and China. China is more strategic as a partner to Russia than India ever will be. Sure, Russia will sell you weapons, but once the shooting starts, they'll stop even supplying spare parts.
