If nothing else, we're going to see the Taliban fight the Taliban. Now that the Crusaders have been vanquished, they'll turn on one another, settling old scores and jockeying for position. The point is, the formation of the Afghan National Army was an extremely bad idea. No Afghan was invested in it. Tribal warfare is the national custom.

@ramonguzman475 Again, you're jumping to conclusions. My beliefs have nothing to do with anything. I was merely conveying what Beijing has stated publicly, that they're happy to work with the Taliban. The Taliban reciprocated with assurances that they won't give shelter to Uyghur militants. These are facts -- you can check up on them yourself. Google News, keywords "China Taliban". Uh, and didn't I suggest that China doesn't care about the Taliban flouting human rights because they're equally guilty themselves with regard to the Uyghurs? Jeez, what put the bee in your bonnet...

@curious1053 Now it really does. All donors are suspending their aid to Afghanistan.

@ramonguzman475 China has already made its intentions clear. They're happy to collaborate with the Taliban and the Taliban are agreeable. The Taliban flouting human rights is not a hindrance -- why would it matter in Afghanistan if it doesn't matter at home in Xinjiang?

@ramonguzman475 I think you need to re-read my comment carefully and not jump to conclusions.

@vodkaboy Maybe they pay them in opium. It would go a long way in explaining their state of mind.

Because it's misguided? Trump deserves blame for signing an ill-advised peace agreement with the Taliban that settled the withdrawal. Just like he left the Kurds in the lurch.

@superbird6176 At least partly. In Biden's defence, he extended the deadline Trump had initially set, from May to September. Biden could've extended further, but I wonder if it would've made an iota of difference. I guess the ANA regional commanders drew their own conclusions from Trump's peace talks and silently agreed on a carefully scheduled stand-down with the Taliban. I think there was bumbling all around, especially in the CIA and at the Pentagon, so let's call it a bipartisan failure of epic proportions that no doubt will weigh down the US for decades to come.

@superbird6176 So, what is it that you want to blame Biden for? A poorly executed withdrawal? That's justified. However, you cannot deny that Biden tragic mistake was following through on Trump's February 2020 peace agreement with the Taliban, which stipulated that all US forces pull out from Afghanistan by May 1st 2021. Biden postponed it to Sep 1st. It all seems perfectly clear to me. Trump set Biden up for disaster, and Biden didn't disappoint. Trump made ill-advised US policy, Biden executed it in an ill-advised manner. Truly a bipartisan failure of epic proportions.
